Apple ID Account Recovery Contact – macOS Monterey… iOS 15 and Above

There were hundreds of new features in the macOS Monterey, iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 updates that became available on Sept 20, 2021. One feature that jumped out at us, as something we help people with on a daily basis, is the “Account Recovery Contacts” feature. This allows the person(s) of your choice to help you recover your Apple ID should you ever get locked out.

If you are prone to forgetting the all-important Apple ID password, we suggest you designate a trusted person as your Account Recovery Contact. This is done in Settings, then tap your name at the top of the menu, and then tap Password & Security. If you have upgraded to version 15 you should see the Account Recovery option. We’re eager to put this feature to the test.

Later updates to iOS 15 included the very interesting Digital Legacy program – The Digital Legacy program allows you to designate people as Legacy Contacts so they can access your account and personal information in the event of your death.

This feature fills a need that we encounter from time to time, and can make it much easier for your heirs to access the information they need, or the family photos they would love to have.

These features continue to be available in macOS Ventura, macOS Sonoma, iOS and iPad OS 16 and 17.
