Jennifer-Mayer Charlotte Street Computers Jennifer Mayer, CEO of Charlotte Street Computers, has adopted a ‘pay it forward‘ philosophy to give back to the Asheville community. Some of Jennifer’s past endeavors include opening ecycleme (a drop-off center for computer recycling), and founding the Power On Community, in which she utilizes marketing dollars to benefit local non-profits.  Her latest initiative, the Klondyke Community Playground Project, will bring a much-needed playground to the Klyondyke community in Montford.

Charlotte Street Computers and the children and families of Klondyke thank you

During a visit to Montford’s Klondyke neighborhood in 2009, Jennifer noticed that the community’s only outdoor playground consisted of little more than a slide and some wood chips.

Jennifer immediately spearheaded an initiative to install a new play space for the Klondyke children.

Power On Community

In 2007, Mrs. Mayer founded the Power On Community program in conjunction with Asheville Community Theatre. In this program, local non-profits are allotted a designated number of tickets to special Preview Performances at Asheville Community Theatre. The non-profit organizations can sell the tickets and will realize 100% of the profits from those sales.

The primary objective of Power On Community is to provide a mechanism for non-profit organizations in our community to assist each other. The intent is that the organizations will provide this assistance as a part of their normal “day to day” business and that it will not require additional money or programs to be achieved.

EcycleUS Recycling Center

Although ecycleme has since become independently owned and changed it’s name to EcylceUs, Charlotte Street Computers continues to work closely with the recycling center, refurbishing discarded computers and computer-related electronics. These refurbished machines are then donated to community members and organizations in need.

To date, working together with ecycleme and then E-CycleUs, Charlotte Street Computers has put over 1000 computers into area community centers and the homes of students and families in Asheville and the surrounding area.
